The Greatest Commandment in the Old Testament

Deut 6:4-5 Hear, O Israel: the Lord our God is one Lord [the only Lord]. 5 And you shall love the Lord your God with all your [mind and] heart and with your entire being and with all your might.

  • Hear, O Israel: the Lord our God is one Lord [the only Lord].

  • And you shall love the Lord your God

    • with all your [mind]

    • [and] heart

      • We must give all our hearts to God

    • and with your entire being

    • and with all your might.

      • God wants all of our devotion not 80%

      • Many examples: Deut 10:12, 11:13, 13:3, 30:6, Jos 22:5, Matt 22:37, Mark 12:30, Luke 10:27

Heart in the likeness of God

Gen 1:26-27 God said, Let Us [Father, Son, and Holy Spirit] make mankind in Our image, after Our likeness, and let them have complete authority over the fish of the sea, the birds of the air, the [tame] beasts, and over all of the earth, and over everything that creeps upon the earth. [Ps. 104:30; Heb. 1:2; 11:3.] 27 So God created man in His own image, in the image and likeness of God He created him; male and female He created them. [Col. 3:9, 10; James 3:8, 9.]

  • God said, Let Us

    • [Father, Son, and Holy Spirit]

      • make mankind

        • in Our image,

          • God make us in His image = We have inside of us what God has inside of Him

        • after Our likeness,

        • and let them have complete authority

          • over the fish of the sea, the birds of the air, the [tame] beasts, and over all of the earth, and over everything that creeps upon the earth. [Ps. 104:30; Heb. 1:2; 11:3.]

  • God created man

    • in His own image,

    • in the image and likeness of God

  • He created him; male and female He created them. [Col. 3:9, 10; James 3:8, 9.]

    • God is not like us – We are like God

God’s Heart for men

Gen 6:5-7 And GOD saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every imagination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually. 6 And it repented the LORD that he had made man on the earth, and it grieved Him at his heart. 7 And the LORD said, I will destroy man whom I have created from the face of the earth; both man, and beast, and the creeping thing, and the fowls of the air; for it repenteth me that I have made them. 8 But Noah found grace in the eyes of the LORD.

  • And GOD saw that the wickedness of man great in the earth,

    • and every imagination of the thoughts of his heart

      • Man’s thoughts come from His heart

      • The very imaginations of our thoughts comes from our hearts

      • was only evil continually.

  • And it repented the LORD that he had made man on the earth,

    • and it grieved him at his heart.

      • God’s heart was hurt, because of our sins and evil and unbelieving thoughts

  • And the LORD said, I will destroy man whom I have created from the face of the earth;

    • both man, and beast, and the creeping thing, and the fowls of the air;

  • for it repenteth me that I have made them.

    • But Noah found grace in the eyes of the LORD.

    • BUT God found Noah

Pleasing God’s heart

Gen 8:21 When the Lord smelled the pleasing odor [a scent of satisfaction to His heart], the Lord said to Himself, I will never again curse the ground because of man, for the imagination (the strong desire) of man's heart is evil and wicked from his youth; neither will I ever again smite and destroy every living thing, as I have done.

  • When the Lord smelled the pleasing odor

    • scent of satisfaction to His heart],

      • God was pleased by Noah offering

      • God’s heart yearns for us to obey Him

  • the Lord said to Himself,

    • I will never again curse the ground because of man,

      • for the imagination

        • (the strong desire) of man's heart is evil and wicked from his youth;

        • neither will I ever again smite and destroy every living thing, as I have done.

Pleasing God

Heb 11:6 But without faith it is impossible to please and be satisfactory to Him. For whoever would come near to God must [necessarily] believe that God exists and that He is the rewarder of those who earnestly and diligently seek Him [out].

  • But without faith

    • it is impossible to please and be satisfactory to Him.

      • God is greatly pleased by faith and trust in Him

  • For whoever would come near to God must [necessarily] believe that God exists

    • and that He is the Rewarder of those who earnestly and diligently seek Him [out].

      • God wants to reward us if we diligently seek for Him not only His blessings

Pleasing Sacrifice to God

Rom 12:1 I APPEAL to you therefore, brethren, and beg of you in view of [all] the mercies of God, to make a decisive dedication of your bodies [presenting all your members and faculties] as a living sacrifice, holy (devoted, consecrated) and well pleasing to God, which is your reasonable (rational, intelligent) service and spiritual worship.

  • I APPEAL to you therefore, brethren, and beg of you

    • in view of [all] the mercies of God,

      • to make a decisive dedication of your bodies

      • [presenting all your members and faculties] as living sacrifice,

        • holy (devoted, consecrated) and

        • well pleasing to God,

        • which is your reasonable (rational, intelligent) service and spiritual worship.

          • God want us to set ourselves (lives & bodies) apart for Him

          • True spiritual worship is living a holy Life to God

Do not grieve the Spirit of God

Eph 4:30 And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God [do not offend or vex or sadden Him], by Whom you were sealed (marked, branded as God's own, secured) for the day of redemption (of final deliverance through Christ from evil and the consequences of sin).

  • And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God

    • We can grieve God’s Spirit

    • How can we grieve God’s Spirit?

      • By not obeying the Word of God

      • By not operating in the same Spirit and character of the Spirit of God

    • sadden Him],

      • by Whom you were sealed (marked, branded as God's own, secured)

        • for the day of redemption

        • (of final deliverance through Christ from evil and the consequences of sin).

Revealing the Heart of God through Impartation

1Cor 2:1-6 AS FOR myself, brethren, when I came to you, I did not come proclaiming to you the testimony and evidence or mystery and secret of God [concerning what He has done through Christ for the salvation of men] in lofty words of eloquence or human philosophy and wisdom; 2 For I resolved to know nothing (to be acquainted with nothing, to make a display of the knowledge of nothing, and to be conscious of nothing) among you except Jesus Christ (the Messiah) and Him crucified. 3 And I was in (passed into a state of) weakness and fear (dread) and great trembling [after I had come] among you. 4 And my language and my message were not set forth in persuasive (enticing and plausible) words of wisdom, but they were in demonstration of the [Holy] Spirit and power [a proof by the Spirit and power of God, operating on me and stirring in the minds of my hearers the most holy emotions and thus persuading them], 5 So that your faith might not rest in the wisdom of men (human philosophy), but in the power of God. 6 Yet when we are among the full-grown (spiritually mature Christians who are ripe in understanding), we do impart a [higher] wisdom (the knowledge of the divine plan previously hidden); but it is indeed not a wisdom of this present age or of this world nor of the leaders and rulers of this age, who are being brought to nothing and are doomed to pass away.

  • AS FOR myself, brethren, when I came to you, I did not come proclaiming to you

    • the testimony and evidence or

    • mystery and secret of God

      • God has a mystery He wants to reveal to us

      • When Adam and Eve fell they lost something that God wanted to restore to mankind again

      • in lofty words of eloquence or human philosophy and wisdom;

      • [concerning what He has done through Christ for the salvation of men]

  • For I resolved to know nothing

    • (to be acquainted with nothing,

    • to make a display of the knowledge of nothing,

    • and to be conscious of nothing)

      • among you except Jesus Christ (the Messiah) and Him crucified.

      • The Heart of God is hidden in Jesus Christ and the amazing price He paid for us to restore us to the orginal plan God had for us

  • And I was in (passed into a state of) weakness and fear (dread) and great trembling [after I had come] among you.

  • And my language and my message were not set forth

    • persuasive (enticing and plausible) words of wisdom,

    • but they were in demonstration of the [Holy] Spirit and power

      • God does not want us to preach the Word of God through knowledge only

      • God want us to demonstrate His kingdom's dominion

      • [a proof by the Spirit and power of God,

      • operating on me and stirring in the minds of my hearers

        • the most holy emotions and thus persuading them],

        • but by demonstration of the kingdom’s dominion and power people come to know by experience what the Word of God means and the God's promises are true

    • So that your faith might not rest in the wisdom of men (human philosophy),

    • but in the power of God.

  • Yet when we are among the full-grown

    • (spiritually mature Christians who are ripe in understanding),

  • we do impart a [higher] wisdom

    • (the knowledge of the divine plan previously hidden);

    • but it is indeed not a wisdom of this present age or of this world nor of the leaders and rulers of this age,

      • who are being brought to nothing and are doomed to pass away.

The Spirit reveal God’s Heart

1Cor 2:10-15 Yet to us God has unveiled and revealed them by and through His Spirit, for the [Holy] Spirit searches diligently, exploring and examining everything, even sounding the profound and bottomless things of God [the divine counsels and things hidden and beyond man's scrutiny]. 11 For what person perceives (knows and understands) what passes through a man's thoughts except the man's own spirit within him? Just so no one discerns (comes to know and comprehend) the thoughts of God except the Spirit of God. 12 Now we have not received the spirit [that belongs to] the world, but the [Holy] Spirit Who is from God, [given to us] that we might realize and comprehend and appreciate the gifts [of divine favour and blessing so freely and lavishly] bestowed on us by God. 13 And we are setting these truths forth in words not taught by human wisdom but taught by the [Holy] Spirit, combining and interpreting spiritual truths with spiritual language [to those who possess the Holy Spirit]. 14 But the natural, non spiritual man does not accept or welcome or admit into his heart the gifts and teachings and revelations of the Spirit of God, for they are folly (meaningless nonsense) to him; and he is incapable of knowing them [of progressively recognizing, understanding, and becoming better acquainted with them] because they are spiritually discerned and estimated and appreciated. 15 But the spiritual man tries all things [he examines, investigates, inquires into, questions, and discerns all things], yet is himself to be put on trial and judged by no one [he can read the meaning of everything, but no one can properly discern or appraise or get an insight into him]. 16 For who has known or understood the mind (the counsels and purposes) of the Lord so as to guide and instruct Him and give Him knowledge? But we have the mind of Christ (the Messiah) and do hold the thoughts (feelings and purposes) of His heart. [Isa. 40:13.]

  • Yet to us God has unveiled and revealed them by and through His Spirit,

    • for the [Holy] Spirit searches diligently, exploring and examining everything,

    • even sounding the profound and bottomless things of God

      • [the divine counsels and things hidden and beyond man's scrutiny].

  • For what person perceives (knows and understands) what passes through a man's thoughts

    • except the man's own spirit within him?

  • Just so no one discerns (comes to know and comprehend) the thoughts of God

    • except the Spirit of God.

  • Now we have not received the spirit [that belongs to] the world,

    • but the [Holy] Spirit Who is from God,

      • might realize and comprehend and appreciate the gifts

        • [of divine favour and blessing so freely and lavishly] bestowed on us by God

  • And we are setting these truths forth in words not taught by human wisdom

    • but taught by the [Holy] Spirit,

      • combining and interpreting spiritual truths with spiritual language

        • [to those who possess the Holy Spirit].

  • But the natural, non spiritual man

    • does not accept or welcome or admit into his heart

      • the gifts and teachings and revelations of the Spirit of God,

        • for they are folly (meaningless nonsense) to him;

        • and he is incapable of knowing them

          • because they are spiritually discerned and estimated and appreciated.

  • But the spiritual man

    • tries all things

      • [he examines, investigates, inquires into, questions, and discerns all things],

    • yet is himself to be put on trial and judged by no one

    • [he can read the meaning of everything, but no one can properly discern or appraise or get an insight into him].

  • understood the mind

    • (the counsels and purposes) of the Lord

      • so as to guide and instruct Him and give Him knowledge?

  • But we have the mind of Christ (the Messiah)

    • and do hold the thoughts (feelings and purposes) of His heart. [Isa. 40:13.]

The Heart of man

Prov 4:21-22 Let them not depart from your sight; keep them in the center of your heart. 22 For they are life to those who find them, healing and health to all their flesh. 23 Keep and guard your heart with all vigilance and above all that you guard, for out of it flow the springs of life.

  • Let them not depart from your sight;

    • keep them in the center of your heart.

      • The Heart is the center of your being

      • For they are

        • life to those who find them,

        • healing and health to all their flesh.

    • Keep and guard your heart

      • with all vigilance and

    • above all that you guard,

      • We must protect our hearts (Gi-Go)

    • for out of it flow the springs of life

      • The Heart is the place from where life issues

      • Prov 23:7 For as he thinks in his heart, so is he

Eternity in the Heart of man

Ecc 3:11 He has made everything beautiful in its time. He also has planted eternity in men's hearts and minds [a divinely implanted sense of a purpose working through the ages which nothing under the sun but God alone can satisfy], yet so that men cannot find out what God has done from the beginning to the end.

  • He has made everything beautiful in its time.

  • He also has planted eternity in men's hearts and minds

    •  [a divinely implanted sense of a purpose working through the ages

    • which nothing under the sun but God alone can satisfy],

      • God has placed in each one a place that only He can fill

    • yet so that men cannot find out what God has done from the beginning to the end.

Trust with All your heart

Prov 3:5 Lean on, trust in, and be confident in the Lord with all your heart and mind and do not rely on your own insight or understanding.

  • Lean on,

    • trust in, and be

      • It takes relationship to build trust

      • You need to know someone in order to trust them

    • confident in the Lord

      • with all your heart and mind

      • and do not rely on your own insight or understanding.

        • Never rely on what you think you know

The Deceitfulness of the heart

The Deceitful heart

Jer 17:9-10 The heart is deceitful above all things, and it is exceedingly perverse and corrupt and severely, mortally sick! Who can know it [perceive, understand, be acquainted with his own heart and mind]? [Matt. 13:15-17; Mark 7:21-23; Eph. 4:20-24.] 10 I the Lord search the mind, I try the heart, even to give to every man according to his ways, according to the fruit of his doings.

  • The heart is deceitful above all things,

    • We cannot trust our emotions and feelings

      • Our feelings are based on past experience

    • and it is exceedingly perverse

    • and corrupt and severely,

    • mortally sick!

  • Who can know it

    • understand, be acquainted with his own heart and mind]?

      • Man can not fix himself - Man is powerless to save himself

    • [Matt. 13:15-17; Mark 7:21-23; Eph. 4:20-24.]

  • I the Lord search the mind,

  • I try the heart,

    • Only God knows what is going on in the heart

    • even to give to every man according to his ways, according to the fruit of his doings.

Deceived Hearts

Matt 15:8 These people draw near Me with their mouths and honor Me with their lips, but their hearts hold off and are far away from Me. 9 Uselessly do they worship Me, for they teach as doctrines the commands of men. [Isa. 29:13.]

  • These people draw near Me

    • with their mouths and honor Me with their lips,

      • We can serve God only with lip serves and head knowledge

    • but their hearts hold off and are far away from Me.

    • God is looking for all our hearts

  • do they worship Me,

    • God is not fooled by our religiosity

    • for they teach as doctrines the commands of men. [Isa. 29:13.]

      • Many hold onto doctrines that are NOT the word of God, because they do not know God

Calloused Hearts

Joh 12:40 He has blinded their eyes and hardened and benumbed their [callous, degenerated] hearts [He has made their minds dull], to keep them from seeing with their eyes and understanding with their hearts and minds and repenting and turning to Me to heal them.

  • He has

    • blinded their eyes

    • and hardened

    • and benumbed their [callous, degenerated]

      • hearts

      • Our heart were hardened because of continually disobedience

  • [He has

    • made their minds dull],

      • to keep them from seeing with their eyes

      • and understanding with their hearts and minds

        • We became insensitive to the voice of God and the presence of the Spirit of God

      • and repenting and turning to Me

        • to heal them

From the Heart comes:

Mark 7:20-23 And he went on to say, "It is what comes out of you that makes you unclean. 21 For from the inside, from your heart, come the evil ideas which lead you to do immoral things, to rob, kill, 22 commit adultery, be greedy, and do all sorts of evil things; deceit, indecency, jealousy, slander, pride, and folly 23 all these evil things come from inside you and make you unclean."

  • And he went on to say, "It is what comes out of you

    • What is driving you?

    • that makes you unclean.

  • For from the inside, from your heart, come

    • What is really in your heart?

    • What are your thoughts filled with?

    • the evil ideas which lead you to do

      • You must clean your thoughts from evil.

      • immoral things, to rob, kill, commit adultery, be greedy, and do all sorts of evil things; deceit, indecency, jealousy, slander, pride, and folly,

  • all these evil things come from inside you

    • and make you unclean."

      • Ask the Holy Spirit to rule your thoughts

The Judge of the Heart

Heb 4:12-13 For the Word that God speaks is alive and full of power [making it active, operative, energizing, and effective]; it is sharper than any two-edged sword, penetrating to the dividing line of the breath of life (soul) and [the immortal] spirit, and of joints and marrow [of the deepest parts of our nature], exposing and sifting and analyzing and judging the very thoughts and purposes of the heart. 13 And not a creature exists that is concealed from His sight, but all things are open and exposed, naked and defenseless to the eyes of Him with Whom we have to do.

  • For the Word that God speaks

    • The Word of knowledge (Rhema) can judge all the thoughts of the heart.

    • is alive and full of power

      • energizing, and effective];

    • it is sharper than any two-edged sword,

      • penetrating to the dividing line

        • of the breath of life (soul) and [] spirit, and

        • of joints and marrow [],

          • exposing and sifting and analyzing and judging

            • the very thoughts and purposes of the heart.

  • And not a creature exists that is concealed from His sight,

    • but all things are open and exposed, naked and defenseless

      • to the eyes of Him with Whom we have to do.

        • The Holy Spirit sees all that is going on in the heart

Cleansing your heart

Prov 16:6 By mercy and love, truth and fidelity [to God and man--not by sacrificial offerings], iniquity is purged out of the heart, and by the reverent, worshipful fear of the Lord men depart from and avoid evil.

  • By mercy and love, truth and fidelity [to God and man--not by sacrificial offerings],

    • We must fill our hearts with Mercy and the Love of God,

    • iniquity is purged out of the heart,

      • this purges or cleanses our hearts

  • and by the reverent, worshipful fear of the Lord

    • men depart from and avoid evil.

      • Fearing God will help us not to stray from the right paths

Protecting your heart

Php 4:4-7 Rejoice in the Lord always [delight, gladden yourselves in Him]; again I say, Rejoice! [Ps. 37:4.] 5 Let all men know and perceive and recognize your unselfishness (your considerateness, your forbearing spirit). The Lord is near [He is coming soon]. 6 Do not fret or have any anxiety about anything, but in every circumstance and in everything, by prayer and petition (definite requests), with thanksgiving, continue to make your wants known to God. 7 And God's peace [shall be yours, that tranquil state of a soul assured of its salvation through Christ, and so fearing nothing from God and being content with its earthly lot of whatever sort that is, that peace] which transcends all understanding shall garrison and mount guard over your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus.

  • Rejoice in the Lord always

    • [delight, gladden yourselves in Him];

  • again I say, Rejoice! [Ps. 37:4.]

    • God wants us to rejoice always – This proves that we trust in Him

  • Let all men know and perceive and recognize

    • your unselfishness (your considerateness, your forbearing spirit).

  • The Lord is near [].

    • Do not fret or have any anxiety about anything,

      • Do not fear! Do not be anxious!

      • but in every circumstance and in everything,

        • by prayer and petition (definite requests),

        • with thanksgiving,

          • Keep having a thankful heart before God

        • continue to make your wants known to God.

  • And God's peace [shall be yours,

    • Then… Will the Peace of God – a supernatural peace – beyond understanding.

    • that tranquil state of a soul assured of its salvation through Christ,

    • and so fearing nothing from God

    • and being content with its earthly lot of whatever sort that is,

  • that peace] which transcends all understanding

    • shall garrison and mount guard

      • Guard / Protect / Shield your heart

      • over your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus.

      • We must come to a place of peace and confidence in God, not fearing Him.

God’s Love poured out in our hearts

Rom 5:1-5 THEREFORE, SINCE we are justified (acquitted, declared righteous, and given a right standing with God) through faith, let us [grasp the fact that we] have [the peace of reconciliation to hold and to enjoy] peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ (the Messiah, the Anointed One). 2 Through Him also we have [our] access (entrance, introduction) by faith into this grace (state of God's favor) in which we [firmly and safely] stand. And let us rejoice and exult in our hope of experiencing and enjoying the glory of God. 3 Moreover [let us also be full of joy now!] let us exult and triumph in our troubles and rejoice in our sufferings, knowing that pressure and affliction and hardship produce patient and unswerving endurance. 4 And endurance (fortitude) develops maturity of character (approved faith and tried integrity). And character [of this sort] produces [the habit of] joyful and confident hope of eternal salvation. 5 Such hope never disappoints or deludes or shames us, for God's love has been poured out in our hearts through the Holy Spirit Who has been given to us.

  • THEREFORE, SINCE we are justified

    • (acquitted, declared righteous, and given a right standing with God)

      • That which separated us from God has been removed

      • through faith,

  • let us [grasp the fact that

    • we] have [the peace of reconciliation to hold and to enjoy] peace with God

      • If we accept this – only then are we at peace with God

      • through our Lord Jesus Christ (the Messiah, the Anointed One).

  • Through Him also we have [our] access (entrance, introduction)

    • by faith

      • into this grace (state of God's favor) in which we [] stand.

  • And let us rejoice and exult in our hope of

    • experiencing and enjoying the glory of God.

      • This brings joy and confidence that God wants to reveal Himself to each one of us

  • Moreover [let us also be full of joy now!]

  • let us exult and triumph

    • in our troubles and rejoice in our sufferings,

    • knowing that pressure and affliction and hardship produce patient and unswerving endurance.

    • And endurance (fortitude) develops maturity of character

      • (approved faith and tried integrity).

    • And character [of this sort]

      • produces [the habit of] joyful and confident hope of eternal salvation.

  • Such hope never disappoints or deludes or shames us,

    • for God's love has been poured out in our hearts

      • God has shown us His love and

      • has given us the ability to love with all our hearts

      • through the Holy Spirit Who has been given to us.

God is Love

1 John 4:7-12 Beloved, let us love one another, for love is (springs) from God; and he who loves [his fellowmen] is begotten (born) of God and is coming [progressively] to know and understand God [to perceive and recognize and get a better and clearer knowledge of Him]. 8 He who does not love has not become acquainted with God [does not and never did know Him], for God is love. 9 In this the love of God was made manifest (displayed) where we are concerned: in that God sent His Son, the only begotten or unique [Son], into the world so that we might live through Him. 10 In this is love: not that we loved God, but that He loved us and sent His Son to be the propitiation (the atoning sacrifice) for our sins. 11 Beloved, if God loved us so [very much], we also ought to love one another. 12 No man has at any time [yet] seen God. But if we love one another, God abides (lives and remains) in us and His love (that love which is essentially His) is brought to completion (to its full maturity, runs its full course, is perfected) in us! 13 By this we come to know (perceive, recognize, and understand) that we abide (live and remain) in Him and He in us: because He has given (imparted) to us of His [Holy] Spirit.

  • Beloved, let us love one another,

    • for love is (springs) from God;

  • and he who loves [his fellowmen]

    • is begotten (born) of God and

    • is coming [progressively] to know and understand God

      • clearer knowledge of Him].

    • He who does not love has not become acquainted with God

      • [does not and never did know Him],

  • for God is love.

    • In this the love of God was made manifest (displayed) where we are concerned:

      • in that God sent His Son, the only begotten or unique [Son], into the world

        • so that we might live through Him.

    • In this is love:

      • not that we loved God, but that He loved us and sent His Son

        • to be the propitiation (the atoning sacrifice) for our sins.

  • Beloved, if God loved us so [very much],

    • we also ought to love one another.

  • No man has at any time [yet] seen God.

    • But if we love one another,

      • God abides (lives and remains) in us

      • and His love (that love which is essentially His)

        • is brought to completion

        • (to its full maturity, runs its full course, is perfected) in us!

    • By this we come to know (perceive, recognize, and understand)

      • that we abide (live and remain) in Him and He in us:

because He has given (imparted) to us of His [Holy] Spirit.

The Heart’s Desire - The Gifts of the Spirit

1Cor 14:1 It is love, then, that you should strive for. Set your hearts on spiritual gifts, especially the gift of proclaiming God's message.

  • It is love, then, that you should strive for.

    • Focus on Love and Strive for it.

  • Set your hearts on spiritual gifts,

    • We must desire the spiritual gifts of God with all our hearts

    • especially the gift of proclaiming God's message.

Sin’s Deceitfulness

Heb 3:7-13 Therefore, as the Holy Spirit says: Today, if you will hear His voice, 8 Do not harden your hearts, as [happened] in the rebellion [of Israel] and their provocation and embitterment [of Me] in the day of testing in the wilderness, 9 Where your fathers tried [My patience] and tested [My forbearance] and found I stood their test, and they saw My works for forty years. 10 And so I was provoked (displeased and sorely grieved) with that generation, and said, They always err and are led astray in their hearts, and they have not perceived or recognized My ways and become progressively better and more experimentally and intimately acquainted with them. 11 Accordingly, I swore in My wrath and indignation, They shall not enter into My rest. [Ps. 95:7-11.] 12 [Therefore beware] brethren, take care, lest there be in any one of you a wicked, unbelieving heart [which refuses to cleave to, trust in, and rely on Him], leading you to turn away and desert or stand aloof from the living God. 13 But instead warn (admonish, urge, and encourage) one another every day, as long as it is called Today, that none of you may be hardened [into settled rebellion] by the deceitfulness of sin [by the fraudulence, the stratagem, the trickery which the delusive glamour of his sin may play on him].

  • Therefore, as the Holy Spirit says:

    • , if you will hear His voice,

      • We must not refuse to give ear to God’s Voice

      • Do not harden your hearts, as [happened]

        • in the rebellion [of Israel] and

        • their provocation and embitterment [of Me] in the day of testing in the wilderness,

          • Where your fathers tried [My patience] and tested [My forbearance]

          • and found I stood their test,

          • and they saw My works for forty years.

      • And so I was provoked (displeased and sorely grieved) with that generation,

    • and said, They always err and are led astray in their hearts,

    • and they have not perceived or recognized My ways

    • and become progressively better and more experimentally and intimately acquainted with them.

  • Accordingly, I swore in My wrath and indignation,

    • They shall not enter into My rest. [Ps. 95:7-11]

  • [Therefore beware] take care,

    • lest there be in any one of you a wicked,

      • unbelieving heart

        • [which refuses to cleave to, trust in, and rely on Him],

        • leading you to turn away and desert or stand aloof from the living God.

  • But instead warn (admonish, urge, and encourage) one another every day,

    • as long as it is called Today,

      • that none of you may be hardened

        • [into settled rebellion] by the deceitfulness of sin

          • Sin is very deceitful and hardens our hearts

        • [by the fraudulence, the stratagem,

        • the trickery which the delusive glamour of his sin may play on him].

The Condition of the Heart

1John 3:20-22 Whenever our hearts in [tormenting] self-accusation make us feel guilty and condemn us. [For we are in God's hands.] For He is above and greater than our consciences (our hearts), and He knows (perceives and understands) everything [nothing is hidden from Him]. 21 And, beloved, if our consciences (our hearts) do not accuse us [if they do not make us feel guilty and condemn us], we have confidence (complete assurance and boldness) before God, 22 And we receive from Him whatever we ask, because we [watchfully] obey His orders [observe His suggestions and injunctions, follow His plan for us] and [habitually] practice what is pleasing to Him.

  • Whenever our hearts

    • in [tormenting] self-accusation

      • make us feel guilty and condemn us.

        • Our hearts condemn and accuse us.

        • Then we mistrust God’s promises and doubts God’s love for us

        • [For we are in God's hands.]

        • For He is above and greater than

  • our consciences (our hearts),

    • and He knows (perceives and understands) everything [].

  • And, beloved, if our consciences

    • (our hearts) do not accuse us

    • [if they do not make us feel guilty and condemn us],

      • we have confidence (complete assurance and boldness) before God,

        • And we receive from Him whatever we ask,

          • If we do not doubt anymore – God answers our prayers.

          • When we have no hindrances anymore God can always answer our prayers

        • because we [watchfully] obey His orders

          • Our love for God will make us not sin anymore desiring to practice God’s will

        • observe His suggestions and injunctions,

        • follow His plan for us] and

        • [habitually] practice what is pleasing to Him.
          • We will be pleasing to God

Passionate Love for God

Song 4:8-10 Come away with me from Lebanon, my [promised] bride, come with me from Lebanon. Depart from the top of Amana, from the peak of Senir and Hermon, from the lions' dens, from the mountains of the leopards. [II Cor. 11:2, 3.] 9 You have ravished my heart and given me courage, my sister, my [promised] bride; you have ravished my heart and given me courage with one look from your eyes, with one jewel of your necklace. 10 How beautiful is your love, my sister, my [promised] bride! How much better is your love than wine! And the fragrance of your ointments than all spices! [John 15:9; Rom. 8:35.]

Water coming out of your well

John 4:14 But whoever takes a drink of the water that I will give him shall never, no never, be thirsty any more. But the water that I will give him shall become a spring of water welling up (flowing, bubbling) [continually] within him unto (into, for) eternal life.

  • But whoever takes a drink of the water that I will give him

    • shall never, no never, be thirsty any more.
