The Voice of God

Gen 3:8 And they heard the sound of the Lord God walking in the garden in the cool of the day, and Adam and his wife hid themselves from the presence of the Lord God among the trees of the garden. 9 But the Lord God called to Adam and said to him, Where are you? 10 He said, I heard the sound of You [walking] in the garden, and I was afraid because I was naked; and I hid myself. Gen 3:8 And they heard the Voice of the LORD God walking in the garden in the cool of the day: and Adam and his wife hid themselves from the Presence of the LORD God amongst the trees of the garden. 9 And the LORD God called unto Adam, and said unto him, Where art thou? 10 And he said, I heard thy voice in the garden, and I was afraid, because I was naked; and I hid myself.   • And they heard

    • the sound of the Lord God (Amplified)

    • Voice of the LORD (King James - 1611)

      • The Sound of the Lord God was the Voice of God

      • walking in the garden in the cool of the day

        • How did they hear the Sound / Voice of God walking in the garden?

  • and Adam and his wife hid themselves

    • from the presence of the Lord God among the trees of the garden.

      • Now we see what they hid themselves from – God’s Presence!

      • The Presence of God was also called the Glory of God

  • But the Lord God called to Adam and said to him, Where are you?

  • He said, I heard

    • the sound of You [walking] in the garden,

      • and I was afraid because I was naked; and I hid myself

        • Adam and Eve lost the covering they had on

        • What was this covering?

          • It was the Glory of God!

          • The Glory was also called the Shekinah of God / Manifested Presence of God

        • When we sin we hid ourselves from the Presence of God

        • Sin unclothed man from the glory of God

The Word of the Lord

1Sam 3:1 NOW THE boy Samuel ministered to the Lord before Eli. The word of the Lord was rare and precious in those days; there was no frequent or widely spread vision.

 

  • NOW THE boy Samuel ministered to the Lord before Eli.

    • Samuel was sleeping in the Holy Place

  • The word of the Lord

    • was rare and precious in those days;

      • We must treat God’s word to us as precious

    • there was no frequent or widely spread

  • vision

  • The Word of the Lord = Vision

    • God speaks through visions – Not always words included

The Gentle Voice

1Kings 19:11 And He said, Go out and stand on the mount before the Lord. And behold, the Lord passed by, and a great and strong wind rent the mountains and broke in pieces the rocks before the Lord, but the Lord was not in the wind; and after the wind an earthquake, but the Lord was not in the earthquake; 12 And after the earthquake a fire, but the Lord was not in the fire; and after the fire [a sound of gentle stillness and] a still, small voice. 13 When Elijah heard the voice, he wrapped his face in his mantle and went out and stood in the entrance of the cave. And behold, there came a voice to him and said, What are you doing here, Elijah? (1Ki 19:11-13) Ampl

  • and after the fire [a sound of

    • gentle stillness

      • God Voice is mostly not an audible voice

    • and a still, small voice.

      • God’s Voice is gentle and small or soft voice

      • The soft voice is a gentle knowing - Yada

  • When Elijah heard the voice, he wrapped his face in his mantle and went out and stood in the entrance of the cave

  • And behold, there came a voice to him

    • The Prophets always said: “The word of the Lord came…”

      • The Word gently bubbles up in your inner being

      • The Word of God flows out of our belly / heart

      • We must learn to become sensitive to that gentle

    • and said, What are you doing here, Elijah?

      • God's voice is a gentle knowing

      • God’s voice comes to a person through a gentle flow from the heart

A Love Relationship with God

Isa 30:18 And therefore the Lord [earnestly] waits [expecting, looking, and longing] to be gracious to you; and therefore He lifts Himself up, that He may have mercy on you and show loving-kindness to you. For the Lord is a God of justice. Blessed (happy, fortunate, to be envied) are all those who [earnestly] wait for Him, who expect and look and long for Him [for His victory, His favor, His love, His peace, His joy, and His matchless, unbroken companionship]! [John 14:3, 27; II Cor. 12:9; Heb. 12:2; I John 3:16; Rev. 3:5.]

  • And therefore the Lord

    •  [earnestly] waits [expecting, looking, and longing]

      • God Himself loves you and personally long to have a relationship with you!

      • to be gracious to you;

        • God is gracious and is NOT a fault-finding angry God

        • God’s love is greater than His anger that is why He send Jesus

  • and therefore He lifts Himself up,

    • God went out of His way to restore relationship and fellowship with you

    • God came down from heaven and left His throne to come to live among men

    • Jesus Christ is God in the flesh who came to die for us

    • that He may have mercy on you

      • Jesus told us that mercy triumphs OVER judgment

      • Mercy is the ability to understand WHY we do what we do even He does not condone evil

    • and show loving-kindness to you.

      • God deeply loves you!

      • God is kind and gentle and NOT a harsh short tempered God

  • For the Lord is a God of justice

    • God is just and fair towards fallen man

      • God does not compromise but understand our condition of helplessness

    • God’s justice anger is towards our enemy and again the sin principle that wants to destroy man

  • Blessed (happy, fortunate, to be envied) are all those

    • When we begin to understand God love for us we will realize HOW blessed we ARE

    • who [earnestly] wait for Him,

      • Why must we wait for God when God waits for us!?

      • This does NOT mean that God is aloof and hold out on us

      • This means we expect what He promised due to His loving character and nature

    • who expect and look and long for Him

      • We must develop a healthy hunger and deep thirst for more of God

      • We must ask God for a greater desire for Him

      • We should NOT be afraid or feel unworthy to receive and even expect the goodness of God

      • [for His victory, His favor, His love, His peace,

      • His joy, and His matchless, unbroken companionship]!

        • God wants a deep living passionate love relationship with us

        • We must know that God want to speak to us and expect God to speak to us

      • [John 14:3, 27; II Cor. 12:9; Heb. 12:2; I John 3:16; Rev. 3:5.]

 

God wants fellowship with His people even more than they want with Him

We need to hear God’s voice so that we could have a relationship with Him

Hunger, expect and long for a relationship with God the Father

Knowing the Voice of God

The Definition of 'Knowing'

Gen 3:5 For God knows that in the day you eat of it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing the difference between good and evil and blessing and calamity.

  • The still small voice of God is a knowing

    • To know instinctively / intuitively

  • ידע - yâda‛ - yaw-dah' - A primitive root; to know (properly to ascertain by seeing); used in a great variety of senses, figuratively, literally, euphemistically and inferentially (including observation, care, recognition; and causatively instruction, designation, punishment, etc.): - acknowledge, acquaintance (-ted with), advise, answer, appoint, assuredly, be aware, [un-] awares, can [-not], certainly, for a certainty, comprehend, consider, X could they, cunning, declare, be diligent, (can, cause to) discern, discover, endued with, familiar friend, famous, feel, can have, be [ig-] norant, instruct, kinsfolk, kinsman, (cause to, let, make) know, (come to give, have, take) knowledge, have [knowledge], (be, make, make to be, make self) known, + be learned, + lie by man, mark, perceive, privy to, X prognosticator, regard, have respect, skilful, shew, can (man of) skill, be sure, of a surety, teach, (can) tell, understand, have [understanding], X will be, wist, wit, wot.

Knowing Jesus’ Voice

Heb 1:1  IN MANY separate revelations [each of which set forth a portion of the Truth] and in different ways God spoke of old to [our] forefathers in and by the prophets, 2  [But] in the last of these days He has spoken to us in [the person of a] Son,

 

  • IN MANY separate revelations

    • [each of which set forth a portion of the Truth]

  • and in different ways

    • God can speak to us in many different ways

    • God spoke of old to [our] forefathers

      • in and by the prophets,

        • In the Old Testament God spoke through prophets

  • [But] in the last of these days

    • He has spoken to us

      • in [the person of a] Son,

      • God spoke to us through a man and IN the person the Son

      • God used Jesus Christ as His Son to speak through

      • We must know Jesus Christ to know the Voice of God

Joh 10:3 The watchman opens the door for this man, and the sheep listen to his voice and heed it; and he calls his own sheep by name and brings (leads) them out. 4 When he has brought his own sheep outside, he walks on before them, and the sheep follow him because they know his voice. 5 They will never [on any account] follow a stranger, but will run away from him because they do not know the voice of strangers or recognize their call.

 

  • The watchman opens the door for this man, and

      • We must learn to listen to Jesus’ Voice

      • If we know Jesus we will also know His Voice

  • and he calls his own sheep by name and brings (leads) them out.

      • because they know his voice

        • To know the voice of God is to perceive the voice of God

    • They will never [on any account] follow a stranger,

      • but will run away from him

      • because they do not know the voice of strangers

        • We will not listen to a stranger’s voice

      • or recognize their call.

        • We must learn to recognise Jesus’ Voice from

          • My emotions

          • And Satan’s voice

The Spoken Word of God

Mat 4:4 But He replied, It has been written, Man shall not live and be upheld and sustained by bread alone, but by every Word that comes forth from the mouth of God. [Deut. 8:3.]

  • “Man shall not

    • live

      • Man need water and food to live by

      • What do you live by – what drives you?

      • What does your lifestyle look like or consist out of?

    • and be upheld

      • What gives you strength?

      • What reinforces you?

      • What gives you great satisfaction and pleasure?

    • and sustained

      • We must realize we do NOT eat only once, but daily, in order to be sustained

      • by bread alone

        • Fasting teaches us how to live on the Word of God

  • but

    • by every

      • every means every – Do not leave one word out

      • We must learn to read the Word of God in context

        • Rightly dividing the Word of God – Old Testament vs. New Testament

      • We must LIVE daily on the Word of God

    • Word

      • The Word of God is NOT the bible!

        • Jesus is the Word of God

          • Every Word Jesus said IS the Word of God

        • The Bible consist out of the Word of God

          • Holy men and women have written down WHAT they have heard from God

          • The Bible is living account of how men experienced God and His Word

        • The Word in Greek here is Rhēma - hray'-mah - an utterance; by implication a matter or topic, especially of narration, command or dispute, a saying, word.

        • Rhema is the living Word or the Word in action

          • When the Word is not just knowledge anymore, but becomes REAL

          • We must learn to live daily making the Word of God real in our lives

        • Rhema word also the spoken word

          • Logos is the written word – Jesus or Bible containing Jesus’ Words

          • The Word becomes alive IN us when we speak and practice the Word

      • that comes forth from the mouth of God

        • God Word comes out of His heart and mind

        • God’s Word is the embodiment of God character and nature – God DNA

      • God wanted to teach the Israelites that they could live on His manna and His Word [Deut. 8:3.]

VOICE of God is Powerful

Psa 29:1 A Psalm of David. ASCRIBE TO the Lord, O sons of the mighty, ascribe to the Lord glory and strength. 2 Give to the Lord the glory due to His name; worship the Lord in the beauty of holiness or in holy array. 3 The Voice of the Lord is upon the waters; the God of glory thunders; the Lord is upon many (great) waters. 4 The Voice of the Lord is powerful; the voice of the Lord is full of majesty. 5 The Voice of the Lord breaks the cedars; yes, the Lord breaks in pieces the cedars of Lebanon. 6 He makes them also to skip like a calf; Lebanon and Sirion (Mount Hermon) like a young, wild ox. 7 The Voice of the Lord splits and flashes forth forked lightning. 8 The Voice of the Lord makes the wilderness tremble; the Lord shakes the Wilderness of Kadesh. 9 The Voice of the Lord makes the hinds bring forth their young, and His voice strips bare the forests, while in His temple everyone is saying, Glory! 10 The Lord sat as King over the deluge; the Lord [still] sits as King [and] forever! 11 The Lord will give [unyielding and impenetrable] strength to His people; the Lord will bless His people with peace.

 

  • A Psalm of David.

    • ASCRIBE TO the Lord, O sons of the mighty,

      • God desire a relationship with His sons

      • The sons of God know the Voice of God and are led by His Voice

    • ascribe to the Lord glory and strength.

    • Give to the Lord the glory due to His name;

    • worship the Lord in the beauty of holiness or in holy array.

      • God’s Spirit is beautiful and loving and pure

  • The Voice of the Lord is upon the waters;

    • The Voice of God is the Word of God – “Rhema”

    • the God of glory thunders;

      • God’s Voice thunder like a mighty waterfall or might rushing waters (Rev 1:15)

    • the Lord is upon many (great) waters.

      • The Spirit hovered upon the waters (Gen 1:2)

      • These ‘waters’ are the bottomless potential of waters of the Spirit (1Cor 2:10-11)

      • Thus the Spirit of God is the Voice of God

  • The Voice of the Lord is powerful;

    • God calls things that are not as though they were. (Rom 4:17)

      • The Word of God has creative power

    • God hold all things together by His powerful Word (Heb 1:2)

  • the Voice of the Lord is full of majesty.

  • The Voice of the Lord breaks the cedars; yes,

    • the Lord breaks in pieces the cedars of Lebanon.

    • He makes them also to skip like a calf; Lebanon and Sirion (Mount Hermon) like a young, wild ox.

  • The Voice of the Lord splits and flashes forth forked lightning.

    • Spirit of God separated and came upon the disciples like flames of fire (Acts 2:1-3)

    • The Spirit of God is like lightening and can also be experienced like electricity or fire

  • The Voice of the Lord makes the wilderness tremble; the Lord shakes the Wilderness of Kadesh.

  • The Voice of the Lord makes the hinds bring forth their young,

    • The Voice of God brings forth Life

      • In Him was life and the life was the Light of men (John 1:3)

    • and His voice strips bare the forests, while in His temple everyone is saying, Glory!

  • The Lord sat as King over the deluge;

    • The deluge is the great waters over which the Spirit was hovering before creation

  • the Lord [still] sits as King [and] forever!

    • God in Christ Jesus is the King of all Creation

  • The Lord will give [unyielding and impenetrable] strength to His people;

    • God sends His Word and brings healing and strength to His sons

  • the Lord will bless His people with peace.

Tongues of Fire

Act 2:1 AND WHEN the day of Pentecost had fully come, they were all assembled together in one place, 2 When suddenly there came a sound from heaven like the rushing of a violent tempest blast, and it filled the whole house in which they were sitting. 3 And there appeared to them tongues resembling fire, which were separated and distributed and which settled on each one of them. 4 And they were all filled (diffused throughout their souls) with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other (different, foreign) languages (tongues), as the Spirit kept giving them clear and loud expression [in each tongue in appropriate words].

  • AND WHEN the day of Pentecost had fully come, they were all assembled together in one place,

  • When suddenly

    • there came a sound from heaven

      • like the rushing of a violent tempest blast

        • This sound from heaven sounded ‘like’

          • a rushing or a violent tempest blast

            • We had an experience in September 2012 when the Spirit was poured out like a mighty tornado

            • See sign that prophetically appeared in the sky 3 days before

      • and it filled the whole house in which they were sitting.

      • And there appeared to them tongues resembling fire,

        • The phenomenon of tongues only resembled something like fire

          • Others have seen it 1948 – Fasting Prayer – Franklin Hall

        • which were separated and distributed

          • This phenomenon looked like sharp piercing thunnels

          • This also looked like forked lightening

        • and which settled on each one of them

          • God wants to give us revelation from heaven

          • The Spirit reveals the voice of God and mysteries of God to us

          • The Spirit of God teaches us

      • And they were all filled

        • In order to hear the Voice of God clearly we must be filled with the Spirit of God

          • (diffused throughout their souls)

            • They were filled to the brim and overflowing

          • with the Holy Spirit

            • The Holy Spirit make new things possible through us

        • and began to speak in other (different, foreign) languages (tongues)

          • Speaking in tongues is one of the gives of the Spirit of God

            • God speaks to us through strange spirit tongues

            • God also speaks to us through the Gift of the interpretation tongues

          • as the Spirit kept giving them clear and loud expression

            • The Spirit speaks on the inside of our spirits

              • Then our soul gives expression of what God says

            • We must learn to yield ourselves to the Spirit of God

          • [in each tongue in appropriate words].

Learn to understand the language of God

Understanding the language of the Spirit

Joh 3:6 What is born of [from] the flesh is flesh [of the physical is physical]; and what is born of the Spirit is spirit.

  • What is born of [from]

    • We must be born again – Meta Noia – Change or renew our mind

      • We must learn to change the way we used think on earth

      • This will be a process of unlearning and new training

    • the flesh is flesh

      • [of the physical is physical];

      • When you were born from flesh on earth you think and hear by means of your ears

  • and what is born of

    • the Spirit is spirit

      • You must understand that you ARE spirit

      • When born again in the Spirit we will be spiritual babies again

      • We will learn to understand a whole new world of the Spiritual realm (Time vs. Eternity)

      • You are born from the Spirit of God and must learn to hear by means of your spiritual senses

        • Spiritual eyes and ears

      • We will learn a ‘New spiritual language’

Understanding the language of the Spirit

Num 12:6  And He said, Hear now My words: If there is a prophet among you, I the Lord make Myself known to him in a vision and speak to him in a dream. 7 But not so with My servant Moses; he is entrusted and faithful in all My house. [Heb. 3:2, 5, 6.] 8  With him I speak mouth to mouth [directly], clearly and not in dark speeches; and he beholds the form of the Lord. Why then were you not afraid to speak against My servant Moses?

 

  • And He said, Hear now My words: If there is a prophet among you,

    • I the Lord make Myself known to him

      • God has a language through which to communicate with us

      • in a vision

      • and speak to him in a dream

        • God used dreams and visions to and through which He speaks to us

        • Visions and dreams are difficult and dark speech of sayings

  • But not so with My servant Moses;

    • he is entrusted and faithful in all My house. [Heb. 3:2, 5, 6.]

    • With him I speak mouth to mouth [directly],

      • clearly and not in dark speeches;

        • God does not want to always speak to us through dreams and visons

        • God wants to speak to us very clearly

          • Mouth to mouth and Face to face

    • and he beholds the form of the Lord.

  • Why then were you not afraid to speak against My servant Moses?

 

We learn to understand the language of the spirit by renewing the mind

The spirit speaks through dreams and visions

God desires to speak to us personally and directly

Understanding the language of the Spirit

Hab 2:1 [OH, I know, I have been rash to talk out plainly this way to God!] I will [in my thinking] stand upon my post of observation and station myself on the tower or fortress, and will watch to see what He will say within me and what answer I will make [as His mouthpiece] to the perplexities of my complaint against Him. 2 And the Lord answered me and said, Write the vision and engrave it so plainly upon tablets that everyone who passes may [be able to] read [it easily and quickly] as he hastens by.

  • [OH, I know, I have been rash to talk out plainly this way to God!]

  • I will [in my thinking]

    • We must learn to think differently

      • Do not think with your logical understanding

      • Learn to think with your heart

    • stand upon my post of observation

      • We must learn to look into the Spirit like a watchmen

    • and station myself on the tower or fortress,

      • and will watch to see

      • what He will say within me

        • “What you see is what you hear and what you hear is what you see!”

        • God speaks on the inside of us most of the time – In your spirit

      • and what answer I will make

        • [as His mouthpiece]

        • to the perplexities of my complaint against Him.

  • And the Lord answered me and said,

    • Write the vision and engrave it so plainly upon tablets

      • that everyone who passes may [be able to] read [it easily and quickly] as he hastens by.

      • If we consider God’s word to us important we should test the word by keeping record what we think we heard - We call this Journaling

      • Through Journaling we learn to recognize the Lord’s voice by trial and error basis

      • Remember to add the dates and the reason why God gave this word – answer / guidance / warning exc.

Why parables

Psa 78:2  I will open my mouth in a parable (in instruction by numerous examples); I will utter dark sayings of old [that hide important truth]--[Matt. 13:34, 35.]

 

  • I will open my mouth in a parable

    • (in instruction by numerous examples);

    • God will speak through examples

  • I will utter dark sayings of old

    • Parables are dark and difficult sayings

    • [that hide important truth]--[Matt. 13:34, 35.]

      • All parables need interpretation

  • God uses idioms and riddles - We get it a bit skewed and not direct

  • We must keep inquiring from God to get a better and more complete understanding

 

Prov 1:1  THE PROVERBS (truths obscurely expressed, maxims, and parables) of Solomon son of David, king of Israel:

  • Truths obscurely expressed / Parables / Stories explaining a point / principle

 

Ezek 20:49  Then said I, Ah, Lord God! They are saying of me: “Does he not speak in parables and make allegories?”

  • God uses something like…

  • Prophets & Jesus said: The Kingdom is like / something like

 

Hos 12:10  I have also spoken to [you by] the prophets, and I have multiplied visions [for you] and [have appealed to you] through parables acted out by the prophets.

  • Prophet’s lives were parables

The Interpretation of parables

Matt 13:10 Then the disciples came to Him and said, Why do You speak to them in parables? 11 And He replied to them, To you it has been given to know the secrets and mysteries of the kingdom of heaven, but to them it has not been given. 12 For whoever has [spiritual knowledge], to him will more be given and he will be furnished richly so that he will have abundance; but from him who has not, even what he has will be taken away

  • Why do You speak to them in parables?

  • And He replied to them,

  • To you it has been given to know the secrets and mysteries of the kingdom of heaven,

    • Parables is a spiritual language

  • but to them it has not been given.

  • For whoever has [spiritual knowledge],

    • Parables reveal spiritual principles and truths

    •  to him will more be given and he will be furnished richly

      • so that he will have abundance;

      • but from him who has not, even what he has will be taken away

​

Matt 13:13 This is the reason that I speak to them in parables: because having the power of seeing, they do not see; and having the power of hearing, they do not hear, nor do they grasp and understand. 14 In them indeed is the process of fulfillment of the prophecy of Isaiah, which says: You shall indeed hear and hear but never grasp and understand; and you shall indeed look and look but never see and perceive. 15  For this nation's heart has grown gross (fat and dull), and their ears heavy and difficult of hearing, and their eyes they have tightly closed, lest they see and perceive with their eyes, and hear and comprehend the sense with their ears, and grasp and understand with their heart, and turn and I should heal them. [Isa. 6:9, 10.]

  • This is the reason that I speak to them in parables:

    • because having the power of seeing,

      • they do not see;

    • and having the power of hearing,

      • they do not hear,

      • nor do they grasp and understand.

      • We do all have the power or ability to hear and see in the spirit,

  • In them indeed is the process of fulfillment of the prophecy of Isaiah, which says:

    • You shall indeed hear and hear

      • but never grasp and understand

        • Many do not have the ability to understand what God is trying to say to them

    • and you shall indeed look and look

      • but never see and perceive

        • We must learn to perceive by knowing

  • For

    • this nation's heart has grown gross

      • (fat and dull),

        • but our hearts has become dull and are insensitive to the Holy Spirit

    • and their ears heavy and difficult of hearing,

    • and their eyes they have tightly closed,

      • lest they see and perceive with their eyes,

      • and hear and comprehend the sense with their ears

        • We must learn to develop and grow in our spiritual sense

        • Our spiritual senses must be trained to discern God’s direction and Voice

      • and grasp and understand with their heart,

        • We must change the way we think

        • Do not think with the mind, but with the heart

  • and turn and I should heal them. [Isa. 6:9, 10.]

Visions

Prov 29:18  Where there is no vision [no redemptive revelation of God], the people perish; but he who keeps the law [of God, which includes that of man]--blessed (happy, fortunate, and enviable) is he. [I Sam. 3:1; Amos 8:11, 12.]

 

  • The Hebrew language is a picture language or God uses visions

    • A picture speaks a thousand words

  • Vision gives redemptive revelation of God

    • Redemptive revelation sets free – John 8:31-32

    • Revelation opens up the scripture

    • Revelation gives understanding of Spiritual principles

  • God gives vision to probe us into a direction

  • Revelation leads us a closer and deeper understanding of and intimacy with God

Dreams

Job 33:14  For God [does reveal His will; He] speaks not only once, but more than once, even though men do not regard it [including you, Job]. 15 [One may hear God's voice] in a dream, in a vision of the night, when deep sleep falls on men while slumbering upon the bed, 16  Then He opens the ears of men and seals their instruction [terrifying them with warnings], 17  That He may withdraw man from his purpose and cut off pride from him [disgusting him with his own disappointing self-sufficiency].

  • For God [does reveal His will;

    • We must learn to know the will of God

    • He] speaks not only once,

      • but more than once

        • God is patient and will not speak only once

        • God will even speak through different ways to breakthrough to you

      • even though men do not regard it [including you, Job].

        • We must learn to realize God wants to speak to us

    • [One may hear God's voice]

      • in a dream,

      • in a vision of the night,

        • when deep sleep falls on men while slumbering upon the bed,

          • God uses dreams because then He can speak to the sub-conscious

        • God reveals His will to us through dreams / Visions

    • Then He opens the ears of men

      • and seals their instruction

        • God found a way that he could speak to you with your interruption

        • God cut our own interference off from us by using a trance / deep sleep

        • [terrifying them with warnings],

          • We do not always regard God’s warning

        • That He may withdraw man from his purpose

          • God speaks in dreams when we are too busy to hear

          • We must learn to become quite and listen to God’s Voice

        • and cut off pride from him [disgusting him with his own disappointing self-sufficiency].

          • Our own personal preferences and interpretation makes it hard for God to speak to us clearly

          • We always hear through a murky glass

          • We hear in part and imperfect

          • We must NOT jump to conclusions and interpretation to fast

          • Leave room for God to correct your understanding of His Will for you

Dreams in the Old Testament

Gen 28:12 And he dreamed that there was a ladder set up on the earth, and the top of it reached to heaven; and the angels of God were ascending and descending on it! 13 And behold, the Lord stood over and beside him and said: “I am the Lord, the God of Abraham your father [forefather] and the God of Isaac; I will give to you and to your descendants the land on which you are lying.

Gen 28:18  And Jacob rose early in the morning and took the stone he had put under his head, and he set it up for a pillar (a monument to the vision in his dream), and he poured oil on its top [in dedication]. 19  And he named that place Bethel [the house of God]; but the name of that city was Luz at first.

  • The Ladder out of Heaven = God’s Presence shown to Jacob

 

Matt 2:11 And on going into the house, they saw the Child with Mary His mother, and they fell down and worshiped Him. Then opening their treasure bags, they presented to Him gifts--gold and frankincense and myrrh. 12 And receiving an answer to their asking, they were divinely instructed and warned in a dream not to go back to Herod; so they departed to their own country by a different way. 13 Now after they had gone, behold, an angel of the Lord appeared to Joseph in a dream and said, Get up! [Tenderly] take unto you the young Child and His mother and flee to Egypt; and remain there till I tell you [otherwise], for Herod intends to search for the Child in order to destroy Him. 14  And having risen, he took the Child and His mother by night and withdrew to Egypt

Matt 2:19 But when Herod died, behold, an angel of the Lord appeared in a dream to Joseph in Egypt 20  And said, Rise, [tenderly] take unto you the Child and His mother and go to the land of Israel, for those who sought the Child's life are dead. 21 Then he awoke and arose and [tenderly] took the Child and His mother and came into the land of Israel. 22  But because he heard that Archelaus was ruling over Judea in the place of his father Herod, he was afraid to go there. And being divinely warned in a dream, he withdrew to the region of Galilee.

  • God can appear to you in a dream by angels

  • Angels can appear to us in dreams (The dream of the whirlwinds)

  • God warn us in dreams

The Water of Life

Joh 4:10  Jesus answered her, If you had only known and had recognized God's gift and Who this is that is saying to you, Give Me a drink, you would have asked Him [instead] and He would have given you living water.

 

  • Jesus answered her,

    • If you had only known and had recognized

      • We must learn to recognize the Gift of God

      • We cannot know the Spirit of God and the Voice of God by logic

      • We must learn to get to know how and where God speaks

      • God's gift

        • God’s gift is the Holy Spirit

        • We must learn to know the character and nature of the Holy Spirit

      • and Who this is that is saying to you,

        • She needed to realize Jesus was the Messiah

        • We must learn to recognize Jesus’ Presence

  • Give Me a drink, you would have asked Him [instead]

    • We must ask Jesus to also give us the Gift of the Holy Spirit

    • and He would have given you

      • living water

        • the Spirit of God in us will make us feel alive and full of power

 

Joh 4:13  Jesus answered her, All who drink of this water will be thirsty again. 14  But whoever takes a drink of the water that I will give him shall never, no never, be thirsty any more. But the water that I will give him shall become a spring of water welling up (flowing, bubbling) [continually] within him unto (into, for) eternal life. 15  The woman said to Him, Sir, give me this water, so that I may never get thirsty nor have to come [continually all the way] here to draw

 

  • All who drink of this water

    • will be thirsty again.

      • We have a natural hunger for God and His Spirit

      • We desire relationship with God

  • But whoever takes a drink of the water that I will give him

    • The water of Life = The Spirit of God on the inside of us

    • shall never, no never, be thirsty any more.

      • Many hunger and thirst for something but do not know what it is

  • But the water that I will give him

    • shall become a spring of water

      • The Holy Spirit is like a spring of water that springs forth from God’s love for us

      •  welling up

        • (flowing, bubbling)

          • The Voice of God flow from within us like a fountain

          • [continually]

        • within him

          • unto (into, for) eternal life.

            • God’s Voice leads to Eternal Life

            • Knowing God is Eternal Life (John 17:2)

The Spirit of Revelation

Eph 1:17  [For I always pray to] the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, that He may grant you a spirit of wisdom and revelation [of insight into mysteries and secrets] in the [deep and intimate] knowledge of Him, 18  By having the eyes of your heart flooded with light, so that you can know and understand the hope to which He has called you, and how rich is His glorious inheritance in the saints (His set-apart ones),

​

  • We must pray and ask God:

    • to flood the eyes of our heart – wait in faith / Look in faith

    • to give us The Spirit of Revelation & The Spirit of Wisdom

  • So that:

    • Have insight into mysteries and secrets

    • in the [deep and intimate] knowledge of Him

    • you can know and understand the hope to which He has called you

    • how rich is His glorious inheritance in the saints

Prophecy

1Cor 14:3 But [on the other hand], the one who prophesies [who interprets the divine will and purpose in inspired preaching and teaching] speaks to men for their upbuilding and constructive spiritual progress and encouragement and consolation. 4 He who speaks in a [strange] tongue edifies and improves himself, but he who prophesies [interpreting the divine will and purpose and teaching with inspiration] edifies and improves the church and promotes growth [in Christian wisdom, piety, holiness, and happiness].

​

  • But [on the other hand], the one who prophesies

    • God speaks to us through prophets & prophecy

    • [who interprets the divine will and purpose in inspired preaching and teaching]

    • speaks to men for their

      • upbuilding and constructive spiritual progress

      • and encouragement

      • and consolation.

        • God loves men and want to speak to them

        • Prophecy flow through love and encouragement

  • He who speaks in a [strange] tongue

    • edifies and improves himself

      • Through spiritual tongues God encourages us with His love

  • but he who prophesies

    • [interpreting the divine will and purpose and teaching with inspiration]

    • edifies and improves the church

    • and promotes growth

      • [in Christian wisdom, piety, holiness, and happiness].

    • God wants to show His Love to His church

      • and want them to grow in their understanding of His love for them

      • therefore He want to speak to them through prophecy and speaking in tongues

    • Prophecy only tell us what is in Jesus’ mind and heart

Conclusion

God wants us to be His witnesses

Acts 1:8 But you shall receive power (ability, efficiency, and might) when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you shall be My witnesses in Jerusalem and all Judea and Samaria and to the ends (the very bounds) of the earth.

​

  • Through the Baptism of the Spirit God helps us to hear His voice

    • The Holy Spirit will give us power and ability to be witnesses for Jesus Christ

    • We can be witness to the Glory of God when He reveals the mysteries and the future to us

All can hear God’s Voice

Acts 2:17 And it shall come to pass in the last days, God declares, that I will pour out of My Spirit upon all mankind, and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy [telling forth the divine counsels] and your young men shall see visions (divinely granted appearances), and your old men shall dream [divinely suggested] dreams. 18 Yes, and on My menservants also and on My maidservants in those days I will pour out of My Spirit, and they shall prophesy [telling forth the divine counsels and predicting future events pertaining especially to God's kingdom]. 19 And I will show wonders in the sky above and signs on the earth beneath, blood and fire and smoking vapour; 21  And it shall be that whoever shall call upon the name of the Lord [invoking, adoring, and worshiping the Lord--Christ] shall be saved. [Joel 2:28-32.]

  • The Baptism of the Holy Spirit is for everyone

    • Both men and women

  • Young men will see visions – Spiritually young

    • Will be able to start seeing visions

  • Old men will dream dreams – Mature in the Lord

    • We will be able to dream dreams in which God speak to us

  • Men servants and maid servants – God’s servants

    • All Holy Spirit baptised people will be able to prophecy

    • God will reveal future events to His people

  • We need to entrust ourselves to Jesus Christ

Practical

Pray for a Spirit of Revelation & Wisdom

  • Ask that the eyes of our hearts be enlightened

  • Ask that God will help you to become more sensitive to His Spirit and Presence

 

While you pray make time to listen and look in the Spirit

  • Learn to both hear and see in the Spirit

 

Journaling / Keeping record

  • Write down your visions & dreams

  • When you pray make time to watch to see what He will say to you

  • Learn to listen in the Spirit

​

Encourage one another daily

  • Learning to perceive

  • Learning to step out in faith

  • Learning to encourage one another

  • Showing the Love of the Lord Jesus to one another

    • Fulfilling the greatest commandment – Love your neighbour as yourself

  • Learning to trust God

    • Overcoming fear of making a mistake
